Uppungal paddy fields and Uppungal jetty, which are spread over the fifth, sixth, seventh and ninth wards of the panchayat, are places that attract a lot of migratory birds. The lush green vegetation coupled with abundant waterbodies act as a perfect host to not only migratory birds but also local avian beauties.
There are large tracts of paddy fields in the panchayat. One specialty of paddy fields is that worms in large numbers breed on these surfaces. Also, paddy fields have the capacity to hold large quantities of water. Birds love these and they come in large numbers from different parts of the state and elsewhere to feast on these.
Besides many types of storks, cormorants and gulls, visitors can spot eagles, kingfishers, peacocks and other birds too. This place is a haven for many kinds of butterflies and dragonflies as well.
Birdwatching is an important activity in the panchayat and visitors will be surprised to see the variety of birds flocking to the village.
