Visit Ramacham fields

  • Learn about the cultivation and medicinal value of this aromatic plant, which is also known by the name Vetiver.
  • The roots of this plant are used in perfumery. Vetiver oil extracted from the roots is a perfume in itself and is used in high value perfumeries, cosmetics, soaps, skin care products, etc. It is also mixed with other oils.
  • Ramacham root is cooling, digestive, immune-modulatory, regulates menstruation and is useful in headache, burning sensations, ulcers, rheumatism and for blood diseases.
  • The roots are used for making medicated drinking water. It is refreshing and is effective in vomiting, diarrhea etc.
    It is also used as a water purifier.
  • It purifies blood, remove body odour and excessive sweating.
  • The roots form an ingredient in the preparation of medicine for the treatment of respiratory diseases, joint pains, skin diseases and stomach disorders.
  •  The fumes from the roots are aromatic and has germicidal and insect repelling activity.
  • Beds made of vetiver root can be used for treating patients suffering from rheumatism and back pain.

Visit Kamala Surayya (Madhavikutty) Memorial
  • Kamala Surayya Das (Madhavikutty 1934 – 2009) was a literary icon and an incomparable literary genius, fluent both in English and Malayalam, and at home in poetry and fiction.
  •  In May 2006, she donated 17 cents of ancestral property in Punnayoorkkulam in Thrissur district to the Kerala Sahitya Academi terming the land and trees as her “kingdom of emotions” that inspired her writings, and could “bring a bit of fragrance” to Malayalam literature.
  • Her ancestral home, Nalappattu, had produced several writers including mother poetess Balamani Amma and great uncle, poet Nalappattu Narayana Menon. It was a rendezvous of literary debates and movements of celebrated writers, making the family with the richest Malayalam literary heritage. Kamala's books continue to be best sellers. Her home, wherever she lived was crowded with old and new writers.
